The Brussels Breakfast Briefing: EU-China-US triangle in the Trump era: Reading the first signals takes place on February 4 from 8:30-9:30 AM (doors open at 08:10). The one-hour event will bring together a group of selected European officials, policymakers, and experts, as well as representatives of selected foreign missions and organizations, for a briefing from MERICS analysts followed by a confidential discussion.

The arrival of Donald Trump in the White House ushers in a new geopolitical reality for EU-China relations. During this briefing we will analyze early signals of Trump’s China policy and its potential impact on key EU concerns, including China-Russia relations, overcapacity challenges, and broader tech and economic security issues. Additionally, we will offer insights into China’s domestic views on Trump and evaluate prospects for transatlantic coordination on China.

Speakers:
Grzegorz Stec, Head of Brussels Office, MERICS
Rebecca Arcesati, Lead Analyst (Science, Technology and Innovation Program), MERICS
François Chimits, Senior Economist, MERICS
