MERICS Member Briefing: National People's Congress (NPC) 2024
In 2024, China is facing internal and external challenges: Lower economic growth, a real estate crisis, rising geopolitical tensions and uncertainties regarding policy changes after elections in key countries. In this context, the so-called “Two Sessions” have kicked-off in Beijing: The meeting of the government advisory body, the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) have begun on March 4th. On March 5, China’s legislature – the National People’s Congress (NPC) – has begun its annual gathering, the second session of the 14th National People's Congress.
MERICS analysts Jacob Gunter and Nis Grünberg will give you a dense briefing on the governmental declaration and their key takeaways of what this year’s NPC means for China and its relationship to Europe.
