On Friday, July 19 from 9:00-10:00 a.m. CEST, MERICS held an exclusive online briefing on the results of China’s “Third Plenum” and the country’s latest economic developments.

Between July 15 and 18, China’s leadership gathered in Beijing for the ominous “Third Plenum of the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Committee”. At the meeting, Xi Jinping was expected to present his vision for China’s economy in the 5-10 years to come. The “Third Plenum” takes place every five years and is traditionally the most important Party conference on economic and social policies.

The MERICS research team analyzed the Third Plenum’s proceedings and final communiqué. On the morning after the plenum’s conclusion, they shared their evaluation of the results as well as an update on China’s latest economic data, published in our quarterly “MERICS Economic Indicators”.

The event took place via Microsoft Teams.

Speakers:
Rebecca Arcesati, Lead Analyst “Science, Technology and Innovation Policy”
Katja Drinhausen, Head of Program “Politics and Society”
Max J. Zenglein, Chief Economist

After the presentation and initial comments, participants were invited to ask questions and engage in the discussion. The meeting was confidential and by personal invitation only. This online event was part of our portfolio for MERICS Members and key stakeholders.
