Vijay Gokhale was Senior Fellow at MERICS and specializes in India–China relations. From 2018 until 2020, he was the Foreign Secretary of India. He served, among others, as the Ambassador of India to China and to Germany, as the Director General of the India-Taipei Association in Taiwan and as India’s High Commissioner to Malaysia. Currently he is a non-resident Fellow at Carnegie India and a distinguished professor at the Symbiosis International University in Pune. Since his retirement from the foreign service, he has published several books and contributed articles to leading international media. Vijay holds a master’s degree in history from the University of Delhi and speaks English, Hindi, Marathi, and Mandarin Chinese.
